Smh, all yall had to say to me was 'read along with the lyrics', it's a compelling story and its ties the album together, yall failed to sell this to me appropriately and I had to find out myself, well.. for anyone not liking the album (like I did) I would suggest you to read along with the lyrics as well

Love the clashing of opinions in this thread.

How does reading along with the lyrics make you suddenly enjoy the parts you were making fun of earlier

Yeah surely lyrics can add context and thus enhance the experience but that’s almost a complete 180 on his previous stance.

A 2 to a 4 off of the back of some incredibly uninspired lyrical content makes me think you weren’t paying attention to the record to begin with and just want an excuse to turn around on your opinion because you rated before listening. The lyrics read like something off of the front page on hellopoetry. Absolutely more power to you if that’s really the case though haha

Lyrics are everything for these types of albums for me, Parallax II by BTBAM is my favorite album of all time because of the lyrics and how they tie the album together, Parallax II without reading the lyrics just as much a mess as this (if they where to be compared, and in that regard, they are quite similar), dunno how yall can give this a high rating solely upon feel of the music however without knowing the lyrical content, that way of perceiving the album goes way over my head personally

also (to clarify cause yall think this mindset is dumb for whatever reason) its not necessarily just the lyrical content that help but its also how the lyrics are sorted if that makes any sense, for example in this album it doesnt have a traditional verse-chorus formula and its just kinda sporadic and shit just kinda happens, I like seeing when a vocal phrase ends and when a guitar solo is about to begin etc. etc. it helps me form a better grip on the composition as a whole

Opinions and tastes, of course, but for me the music must be able to stand on its own, no way lyrics as a component can amplify the total musical value/experience by 2 rating points, unless it's folk music or spoken word performance.

Wait, so knowing that Parallax II is one of your favourite records BECAUSE of how the lyrics inform the structuring, you went into this record the first few times WITHOUT the lyrics? And then rated it?
That’s like calling a camera shit because you viewed the demo footage through a Gameboy lmfao, you’re wild dude, shit, I wouldn’t have touched the album if I didn’t have the lyrics pasted to my retinas if I knew there was potential for a full 2 point rating drop.
