Hell yeah! And that atmosphere is killer! Some amazing sound design too!

It's not the song-writing. It's the production and sound design. Jade has improved massively in his abilities over the years. Speaking as someone who quite likes idm and is really drawn to electronic music from a sound design perspective, CexCells really sounds like a rock band's first attempt at electronic.

It's not terrible, I quite like the songs you've all highlighted, but as an overall experience, I'd easily take, say, Only Things We Love over it.

I have a lot of nostalgia for CexCells and it is definitely a great album but I do agree that Jade has improved immensely over the years. If you dabble in production then you really appreciate all of the stuff that Jade has been doing on their more recent material. Honestly, I think Bright Black Heaven is easily their weakest record. It doesn't have the consistency of CexCells or the refinement of everything that came after it. Still has some great tracks on it but I don't revisit it nearly as much as their other stuff.

The more I listen to it, the more I enjoy the new album. It has a good bit of variety but it feels very cohesive at the same time. It's always chill no matter what. Even the super fun and groovy stuff like Absolute Scenes has a chill vibe about it. And I'm a big fan of chill vibes.
Softbitten, EDZ, and Dreamyhead are still my favorites but there isn't a bad track here.
