It's so fucking refreshing to hear so much Myung presence on this record, as well as so many 90s DT callbacks

Also, that shredding from John on S2N is some inhuman stuff

Wish me luck. I'm running through The Astonishing and I won't stop until it's over. Already found one song I like though, "A Better Life".

I'm a completionist. Besides, the album so far hasn't been horrible, it's just been boring and cheesy. It's listenable, but nothing worth returning to so far.

"Death is coming, like Nevermore"

Damn that's a harsh dig at Nevermore's disbanding

@NoTrap: more of a 3.5 for me. Still, it has some pretty good material. They're not breaking any new ground, but it's good for what it is

Yeah, I agree with Omair. Nothing horrible, but nothing really amazing for me on this either. I'm trying to not be blinded by the fact that the last two were so horrible which makes this so much easier to praise, but it's definitely enjoyable.

Nothing amazing? This album is so good that Omair is actually active for the first time in years, like a cicada in the rain...or something. That's pretty amazing. :D

Hahaha you're right Sitar. This and Priest's last album have got me back on here for the most part

Priest's Firepower is better imo but this is also impressive. I would rank it along side Train of Thought, Octavarium and Black Clouds. Granted, none of those are top tier DT for me, so if someone said "best DT since Six Degrees" I wouldn't argue.
