I think the main issue is actually that the cleans are forced way too high when they could’ve opted for a lower pitch or something that would still make it fine

@Flug I gave it a 4.0 because I think the production (on the musical side as well) has improved compared to their last record, the riffs and overal song structure is a little better to me. Garrett also sounds amazing and I never really cared for the over-the-top lyrics anyway. Maybe this is closer to a 3.5 but time will tell. Also hard agree with tyman

I think this band are awesome so my criticisms are relative.
The cleans are pretty hit and miss. Not super into some of the experimentation they've done here either. The slight commercial turns they make don't work for me especially.
Everything was Sound is stylistically pretty perfect. Not sure why Silent Planet have leaned on some of their weaker assets here.

I've always found this sites obsession with completely random metalcore acts amusing. This band is as generic and boring as they come, architects have been doing this exact same thing miles better for about 10 years now.

I mean metaclore fans are usually a specific type of person and that specific type of person is definitely more likely to have an online music profile but not at somewhere a bit more judgemental like RYM - this is definitely a more casual site hence the preference towards Post-Hardcore/Metalcore

I would hate Metalcore but Converge, The Chariot, and ETID are very clearly metalcore and I love them. Does only liking three bands in a genre count towards an "exception proves the rule" defense?
Spun this a few more times to see if had any sticking power that I missed on the first couple. I'm still bouncing off hard. Extra douchebag points for the "where joy is a pill and love’s a prescription" line. Fuck right off.

I dig this band and this album, but you’re really overblowing the lyrics in the review.

Who is tagging this as post metal?

To those who keep interjecting in this thread implying metalcore is somehow a lower form of music, please go away. You clearly don't have enough of a grasp of the genre to know what's generic and what's not. Please keep your ignorance to yourself.

Nah deathschool it ain't you dawg. You've made some pretty harsh statements about the quality of this record that I don't agree with, but that's just opinion. The lame stuff is the outright elitism in the thread in general and some of patronizing the comments on this page.
Anyway, I quit this particular discussion. I've got better things to do than complain about things that'll likely not change =)

I’ve been here and on MX before for more than 15 years, and apparently some things never change - I never thought I would see people all this time later still arguing about the legitimacy of a now near dead subgenre.

metalcore dead? lolno

I disagree with your assessment that Metalcore is near dead. In the internet age where most types of music is brimming with acts making music and accessing that music been easier, I find it very difficult for a genre to die. What is your definition of DEAD?
