"They referenced "season of the witch" in this?

lmfao"

There is a reference to every Halloween film in this movie, other than the remake.

Arguing about horror films is arbitrary because what scares you may not scare someone else and vice versa. Having a genre of film mostly contingent on the criteria of being scared sets most of the movies up for failure. So when there's a horror film with other aspects that are somewhat praise-worthy it's noted more frequently and gains some buzz.

This is why Hereditary, It Follows, The Witch and Halloween have somewhat good reputations. They were able to provide substance in multiple areas instead of just giving us cheap scares and tropes that have plagued the genre for decades. Whether what they did well was cinematography, character development, tone & atmosphere, the score, or other areas, it's better than 95% of the garbage they've tried feed us year after year. Maybe it's the result of lower expectations but I've enjoyed all of the above.

The new dr. storyline was a bit questionable yea. Other than that the movie was really good. Not quite the level of It Follows or Hereditary, or The Witch (my favorite horror movie), but it was nice to see a late installment in a seasoned franchise that was as well made and respectful of the series as that was. Probably the most deadly and intense Michael Myers has ever been, though I could be wrong as I haven't seen any of the other Halloween sequels all the way through.

The Wailing is the perfect horror flick and nothing has been able to top it since

Man I'll never understand, nor do I particular care or want to, how other people rate movies. I saw this last night & enjoyed it, but fully expected a shit-ton of shitting on it just because that's what people do with anything that isn't some mental masturbation flick with "deep concepts" and unfished "makes you wonder" plot lines. Lo and behold it seems people are loving this one - I always have liked the soundtracks to Halloween tho (well, first two & this, i haven't seen the rest yet, heh!)

I said the same thing a few pagea before, The Wailing really is a masterpiece. It's a bit hard to decipher, but it makes you feel just as helpless as the protagonist. It's very melancholy in some moments, funny in others, but overall it beats the hell out of many other horror movies.

man I really gotta rewatch Hereditary, I was piss drunk when I saw it but it still rocked me and I loved it, just wish I could remember more of it.

As much as I really love films like Hereditary, It Follows, The Witch (The Wailing is on my watchlist), I still will never in a million years love a horror film more than the original Halloween. I've got a damned Halloween tattoo, so I'm obviously super biased and like someone earlier mentioned yeah nostalgia is a big factor, but the fact that I have seen the film 40-50 times and it STILL sends chills up my spine and captivates me completely from the first second until the last is incredibly impressive and very few films have ever impacted me so hard or maintained the same reaction time and time again. I totally disagree with the people in here saying this film doesn't stand up or shouldn't be called one of the greatest horror films ever, fuck that, Halloween is an utterly perfect film in almost every single way. There's a reason the film spawned so many sequels and a rabid fanbase, and no offense to any of the other films I mentioned (all of which I really like) but I highly doubt any of those films will have the same lasting legacy and fanbase that Halloween continues to have.

The Witch is the best movie being talked about in this thread besides Halloween.

I know not everyone is going to enjoy the latest movie, but when I see people criticizing the score as tired, I'm a bit baffled.
