Toxic masculinity is absolutely a problematic concept because masculinity itself is a somewhat nebulous concept but I firmly believe it exists and there is a precedent for it.

i think where gyro isn't getting it is the fact that while repressed emotions and societal pressures don't LEAD to suicide, they're potentially a big influencer. if you're already struggling within yourself those problems r gonna come back up eventually and be a lot more difficult to deal with when they're piled on top of everything else

Eh, you have your opinion and I have mine. I think toxic masculinity is a construct used by the left to demonize males for any behavior whatsoever that's perceived as disagreeable (I've seen it happen countless times in debates when some sjw idiot gets in over their head). Toxicity isn't exclusive to gender and if you think it is then I think you're part of the problem. I've known some pretty wicked women in my lifetime

When you're talking about society-wide stuff like attitudes towards gender norms and causes of shifts in the suicide rate, ofc there isn't going to be any hard data or numbers to back it up. Stuff like that is just too hard to effectively quantify. Doesn't mean it's not a real thing that influences people. You wanna talk sociology, you'd better get used to anecdotes being the closest thing to evidence there is.
