Yeah I always dislike when an album gets judged based on personal expectations, as if the artist is supposed to consult with you first. I'm guilty of it too from time to time but it's not a fair way to rate even in hiding behind the subjectivity of taste.

how come this band's called foxing but there's always a picture of a different non fox animal on their album art? misleading.

They're the fox from Daisy. #conspiracy

Also I finally hear Brand New in this but it's very subtle.

I honestly heard more of something like Modest Mouse than Brand New on here

this is anything but boring

I could see it called a mess, an identity crisis, cringey falsetto, whatever...but this is too energetic and unpredictable to be boring

Grand Paradise is the only thing that sounds like BN. And even then, it's a very Radiohead-influenced BN sound. The falsetto + screamed vocals give it the Daisy era Jesse Lacey effect. But then he hardly does it again the rest of the album

This album could be less boring if the vocal melodies, which have been one of their biggest strengths, weren't so unpleasant throughout most of it.

I'd hardly call his falsetto's boring in any sense of the word. In fact there's a fair bit of diversity in vocal deliveries here so I don't get the vocal melody complaints at all. Conor sounds just as impressive as he did on the previous albums and his variety of approaches brings so much interest to this. Plus if you don't think that this is instrumentally more adventurous then their previous albums, then you obviously just hated this because it's a step in a new direction. I personally find that ignorant and I feel bad for those who feel that way with any band in general honestly. I commend bands that try new routes.

I've gut instinct 4.5'd all of Foxing's albums and eventually lowered them to 4s so I wouldn't necessarily be surprised if the same happened again here, but so far I'm confident it's earned the one step up.

I was admittedly apprehensive about 5'ing this so soon, but it's only grown into that rating with repeated listens so I'm still confident I made the right choice.

You have good sir, 5 worthy for damn sure. I listened to this for 4 hours straight while loading packages and honestly didn't tire of listening to it.
