I don’t like the gruff monotone yelly man rap style in general

I’m listening to this now and I think I have found a way to sort of articulate what I don’t like about DMX’s rapping. I don’t actually mind when he’s actually rapping in a single layer without editing. His voice is fine at those moments. What I can’t stand is this super later 90’s / early 00’s radio rap aesthetic where they take these monotonous, one note, raspy yell hooks and seemingly either layer them together multiple times or add a slight delay and a shit tonne of reverb or some shit to create this almost echoey chorus effect on the rappers voice. It reminds me very singularly of a lot of early 00’s radio rap that I grew up with and it’s one of my least favourite styles of hip hop vocal production ever. It doesn’t help that I generally hate 00’s mainstream hip hop production either.

Also the constant WHAAAT? YEAH! COME ON! UH! Shit is pain
