I hate to say it but after giving this a listen based on Steak's recommendation, this is somewhere between a 2.5-3 for me.

Damn that's a shame, I thought this would be something you'd enjoy more than that

I don't know why but I can't enjoy most of the core records being hyped this year. The Armed (my potential AOTY) and Greyhaven are the only two I've really liked and even Empty Black has qualities I hate about it, despite being a solid 4 of a record.

What didn't you like about this?

1. The instrumentation doesn't stand out to me in any interesting way. Everyone is doing their thing but I don't feel like anyone is working at maximum capacity, doing everything they can to elevate the songs. There are certainly riffs I like here and there, but a lot of them just feel generic and uninspired. This feels very much like a melodic hardcore record that I would have expected to hear in the early 2010's but with a few more tricks.

2. The harsh vocals are good but I absolutely despise the clean vocals, which is unfortunate because the clean vocals appear so often.

Fair enough, I feel that. However, even though it's not the most original record in the genre, it does the sound incredibly well and I love every second of it. The cleans are definitely kinda hard to get into, so I completely understand somebody not digging them

I started skeptical about this one but remains cool even after a few listens. Getting some late poison the well vibes too. The mood though its a little bit tiring towards the end, otherwise it would be a 4. Its close for me though...

Vocalist on here reminds me so much of the guy from Seas of Wake. I'll be surprised if anyone knows that band but if you do you'll hear it too.

A lot of my picks are looking light on the voting front so I'm hoping at least one of my big picks makes it in somehow. My AoTY happened to arrive November and flew under everyone's radar so nobody picked it up.

I gave up on user voting. My one vote probably won't matter for those albums with about 10 ratings anyway lol.

I'm hoping a few of my choices make it, but it seems unlikely. A lot of the top 10/20 are written in stone practically.
