Ugh, agreed so hard on every point made in this review it just isn't even funny. What a SLOG of a record. And, how about, worst production of the decade?

I don't understand the praise this record got tbh, it's not THAT good. It's pretty decent but nothing special after Monarchy. Yes, it has some different sounds but they are not that well done to truly transcend the record

people lose their shit these days when something is labeled as prog and it has a saxophone or anything that sounds 'jazzy'

throw in some clean vocals and clean guitars and there you go,album of the year

It feels ridiculous that people don't understand why the drum sound 'could be' rubbish to some. Sure, if you don't really care that much about sound quality, good for you, I wish I could too cause it takes fun out of most records that are super interesting musically... But come on, there's no way the people that think the drums are 'fine', don't hear how mechanical and sampled they sound at the same time

Yap i could see that. Its just the amount of "fake expertise" that I'm fed up with. And when I'm a bit drunk I say stupid things too. Sorry "people of the sound". Sometimes I find myself surrounded by sound engeniers and important music producers here.

@deftones Yeah I can see why so called 'sound experts' can be annoying. Although, as a trve expert on 'da zoundz', I also get annoyed by people that cry about something being decent-sounding when it's really far from decent-sounding. Take people on YouTube for example, 'ITS NOT THE MIX THATS BAD, ITS THE YOUTUBZ COMPRESSION DUH!'. Those people piss me off tbh. Just be honest about what you think and elaborate, and we are all good. I'm glad people here are not put off by the sound quality, but obviously sampled drums just annoy me and ruin a record... have a good one bro, no hard feelings at all

Hell no hard feelings x) and I know this is the right thread to do that (2.5 review). But I'm sure they didn't screw up. It was an intended option and then there's personal taste.

Yeah, cause this is the same guy that worked on August Burns Red's records, and their drums sound less sampled than the ones here. I guess some people like the sound of it

the drums are just kinda clearly overcompressed. there's slight distortion on the snare and the kick is kinda lifeless but it'd be tolerable otherwise if not for the fact that the guitars are pumpy as hell

idk there are some modern death metal productions where i can just kinda get over its problems (The Flesh Prevails) but this one is just blehhhh

lol yeah. A lot of people don't seem to know the difference between data compression and dynamic range compression. Or how a bad mix and a bad master can each affect the sound of an album. If something's poorly mixed, it'll sound like ass no matter what you're playing it from.
