yeah Kaleidoscope actually grew on me. Just get past the intro and it's actually pretty okay. To be honest, the lyrics aren't really that different to a lot of other Machine Head lyrics from the past.

In hind-sight, that video Mayhem linked is the main reason this album even exists. Anselmo is the entire reason they made Bastards, and the reason Robb said himself he can't connect to the metal community anymore.

I really, really tried to get into the Burning Red but just every fibre of my being was rejecting it. I only listened to Supercharger once and couldn't go back. This album is a lot more listenable, but makes a lot of the same mistakes which is worse now because they're so much more experienced.

It's been way too long since I did shrooms or acid... I'd really like to indulge some time. But I think you need a measure of sobriety to appreciate The Blackening properly. I still think it's hands down their best album and the biggest step forward they ever took as musicians.

The only time I dropped acid it was almost evening and a draft was making this houseplant cast a slowly moving shadow on the living room wall. We stared at that shadow for a long time, it changed shape into a million different things over the course of the night, haha. Good times.
