Nah, I'll probably end up loving it in the end.

I can never tell if our tastes will converge or forcefully push apart
we're like two magnets

Our tastes are mostly the same except your pop/pop punk is my country/Americana
Though I've also kind of grown away from indie folk recently.

Listen number 10 and we have a breakthrough...this is a pretty good album
It's still a 4 rating though

Doof you talk like a 4 isn't a very strong rating from you.
On my second listen now and I'm enjoying it much more.

Album Rating: 4.5
I rated this a 4 initially because I rated the previous two albums a 4 and nothing seemed amiss after an initial spin
Then I waited for it to grow. It has grown but not above a 4 which is a high score for me (as I said the two previous FF albums were a 4, the two most recent War on Drugs albums are a 4, I have no Stooges or Velvet Underground album above a 4...4 is a really high rating imo)

It hasn't blown me away above that, and this is currently the highest rated 2017 album on RYM

I see what you mean from that perspective. I think this will grow on me lot but it's definitely not the sort of thing to immediately blow you away.

Fleet Foxes has never been a band that's swooned me on a first listen, it's always been very dense folk rock that I've had to take time to digest.

| |
Album Rating: 4.5
I guess I was hoping this would end up their best/a 4.5 or higher and the RYM reception only added to my confidence it'd grow and grow

The question of the year though:
This or Pure Comedy?

Pure Comedy

"This or Pure Comedy?"
Considering how stale a lot of PC got after 3 listens...
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.0
You mean how much more depth, diversity and appreciation can be taken from PC after continuous listens...

Album Rating: 4.5
Both on a 4 right now - sitting on that fence
If pushed...think I'll land Fleet Foxes by a (uh) whisker

This beats PC for me because of the music. Lyrically PC is amazing though. It's the only reason I rated it highly tbh because musically it can get pretty damn tedious.

Album Rating: 4.5
I like the overall musical aesthetic of PC but I agree most of its tricks are revealed in the first four songs. This has more musical surprises/flourishes throughout.

I agree the music on here has more depth and experimentation than FJM, but he's a singer songwriter where the music is ideally the vehicle for his lyricism, and the music is great.
