I still hear the muddiness a bit in the loudest parts of Milk, there’s just so many of those soft pad-like effects and strings going on that it gets kinda mushy for me. Maybe it’s my headphones

I think the main factor is the melodies. They seem simple but they’re actually really unique in a couple ways. They have a sort of “coolness” about them that allows them to convey emotion without ever feeling sappy, everything just feels smooth and effortless. And the arrangements are like that too, with some of them building into some amazing climaxes. The endings of Darkness and Misfortunes Are Cruel for example
