I think the main factor is the melodies. They seem simple but they’re actually really unique in a couple ways. They have a sort of “coolness” about them that allows them to convey emotion without ever feeling sappy, everything just feels smooth and effortless. And the arrangements are like that too, with some of them building into some amazing climaxes. The endings of Darkness and Misfortunes Are Cruel for example
