Yes. It's average as fuck, and I've loved everything that these guys have done.

Does this one make you FEEL??

the more i read that summary the more it annoys me lol
|

don't want to belabor the point but this has some of the worst-sounding drums i've ever heard
alternate theory: tosin's new drummer is a pirated copy of fruity loops
|

If i find all their other stuff boring will this borijng too?

Album Rating: 3.5
yea probably. but try it you may find something you like

The more i give this album a chance the more I dig it. TJOM had a lot of breathing room, and while I feel like this album could benefit from a little more of that I dig the heavy jazz influences throughout.
"Private Visions of the World" has a gorgeous solo in it.

Agreed, when you give this a chance it's very rewarding.

how are people still ragging on the drums. they are easily the best part of this album

Album Rating: 4.5
Official: summary is a huge misfire.
I stand by what I was trying to say but I accept that I cocked it up pretty badly.

'how are people still ragging on the drums. they are easily the best part of this album'
drumming itself is great, obviously. drum production is lmao topkek terrible

I think "polarizing" would be better instead of "arrogant"

Album Rating: 4.5
Agreed that it is polarizing, but the point I was making (or heartily failing to) is that a lot of instrumental rock/metal is very show-y, particularly - as in this instance - when it was formed as a platform for a virtuoso instrumentalist.
I just felt that on this (and to a lesser extent, TJoM), the project has grown a lot more from it, and I'm getting a lot more emotional attachment to the material than just being impressed at the technicality.
Anyway, it was ballsed up, so my bad!

I think you're doing it wrong if you judge a technically-progressive album before a couple listens. There's so much going on that it can be hard to digest for a bit.
After doing so, I fucking love this shit. I don't want to rate it yet but I feel like it could grow into being my favorite of theirs.
Inner Assassins is a song I didn't really think much of at first but now I totally love. The outro seemed really weird to me at first, but now the melody there really gets me. Really makes me feel that certain something that only melodically-conscious progressive music can. Awesome.

Finally got to give this a full listen on a nice stereo and it is pretty impressive. I'm going to need some more time with it, but damn, everyone is on point here form the most part. I feel like the songwriting leaves a little to be desired, but this is good so far.

This album is really hard to rate..when I'm in the mood it sounds really well done, but when I'm not totally in the mood it sounds like three guys jacking off.
|
| |
^ya I have a similar impression. Will give it more time for it to sit well on me, while I jack off lol

IMO, the difference between these guys and most other wankfest acts is that I think they do everything with a purpose instead of just being like 'LOOK WHAT I CAN DO. I BET YOU CAN'T PLAY THAT.'

I've loved everything else these guys have done, but this is just boring. And that production, wow! Huge downgrade from Joy of Motion

Damn. Try again. Seriously. I was so underwhelmed the first couple times I heard this but it's just as good as their other albums.
