That's fine can't always have the feels
Are you a YC fan or are you just approaching this without much experience with their previous discography? In my opinion nostalgia is a pretty big factor in this one.

this is just not punky or fast enough for me I think. Sometimes I just get this feeling like its trodding along and not exciting enough. I loved Southern Air and this is alright, but its just not sitting yet right.
Also I hold no nostalgia for yellowcard so that may be the issue

I have had nostalgia for Yellowcard since One for the Kids. I think their last 2 albums have been utter disappointments. The departure of LP really affected the energy of their music. I got into Yellowcard because of OFTK in early 2000s, but perhaps I'm still holding onto that scene. Maybe they were trying to replicate Fall Out Boy's success drifting away from pop punk? I don't know, but I definitely feel this was kinda meh to end their career with.

This album is hitting me hard. Our entire family loves YC and it feels like this is just a culmination of my childhood being over finally. Being 20 years old soon, it feels like a chapter is over. This album just hits me emotionally unlike anything that has come out this year.
This just about ties with Southern Air and Paper Walls for my favorite.

I'm in the exact same boat as ipposn on this one. YC really benefited from LPIIIs awesome drumming and high energy and these last two albums haven't been as great as their previous albums for it, bar maybe L&S which I never really got into. However I wouldn't call them utter disappointments because they still have that YC feel that I just never haven't tired of over the years. Would've have loved for this album to crash open with a high octane opener like The Takedown with the band going out on a bang. Will definitely miss this band though, and those nostalgia feels they've brought over the years.

"YC really benefited from LPIIIs awesome drumming and high energy "
The weird part about this is, while LPIII is great, so is Nate Young. Some of the drumming on Anberlin is really, really intricate. Go listen to Godspeed again. But on Lift a Sail they just never let him show it off.

The first 4 tracks all belong in the conversation tbh
(For best songs on the album, not best songs of the whole year)

Yeah both that and the Bon Iver one (6,500 in about 1.5 days) have crazy view rates for some reason. I've never really paid much attention to views as opposed to comments and engaging discussion, but I think my Swans review for The Seer is my highest viewed. Some people's reviews on this site have gone off the chart though in ways I don't really come close to. I think there's a list out there somewhere about this.

I'm a big fan of Anberlin, but Nate Young was never the reason why I liked Anberlin. Not knocking his skills, but his drumming has a more flat/methodical approach than LP's. Maybe it's because of LP's jazz background, but I don't know. I think it's the same reason why I like Carter Beauford from DMB.
Anyhow I grew up with OFTK/Underdog/Ocean Avenue in 2000s, so perhaps I'm old (35) and clinging to the past. I've always enjoyed their "summery" songs and not much their "alternative" ventures.
I think the only songs off this album that resonate somewhat are Rest in Peace and I'm a Wrecking Ball. For reference from Lift a Sail, I only liked One Bedroom and The Deepwest Well.
