Actually, I'm understanding what you mean now. Around the third page he made one comment defending his review. Which is fine. Standard. And then his second comment, things got unnecessarily personal. At that point, the commentators just had a field day with him. I guess he brought it on himself. On top of that...He jumped onto another Chevelle review?
I take back most of what I originally said except for this: there's no need to make these threads overly personal. It's about Chevelle. Let's keep it that way. Thanks for letting me know, by the way, SowingSeason.

I think it's entirely fair to be skeptical of day-one fives depending on your view of what a five is, but I'm much more likely to give it credence if it's well-written.

Definitely. This album was not a five at all. I loved the heavy sound, but lyrics were getting too repetitive towards the end... In each song. It's not like a couple lines were repeated. I can deal with that. But one line or word repetition get old quick.

KBridge,
It's true Sputnik can be like walking into a buzz saw -- a fact to which you're becoming swiftly acclimated -- and there's a lot of bullshit comments on reviews that are nonconstructive and just bluntly rude. With that said, though, this review is not a hill worth dying on. Putting aside the alleged "fanboyishness," there are tons of run-on sentences and other grammatical and punctuation issues, as Jom has noted. I've worked as a copyeditor at professional publications, and this review falls well-below amateur standards of good writing. It's only Sputnik's user-generated platform that permits this to be public.
Trust me; I'm one of the "defensive reviewers," who gets pissed at some of the pretentiousness from the peanut gallery and have made a fool of myself on threads here. I am by no means a fantastic writer. I have weaknesses like everyone else. So, I advise you to grow a thick skin -- you can't be a writer without one -- take legitimate criticism into consideration, take the illegitimate criticism as grains of salt, learn to tell the difference between the two and keep writing.

@Kupasexy15 Truth but I'm not sure young KBridge is still with us. Sputnik really separates the boys from the men.

RIP KBridge
| | | Never heard these guys I should jam this.

They're an above average alt rock band, if that seems up your alley then id go ahead. It doesn't really matter which albums you jam first i dont think (2nd is probably their best), but what i do think is that the 4.2 average for this is still real inflated so don't go into it expecting a 4.2 album

Didn't give enough of a shit about this short-sighted fanboy review to rate it at first, but then read the author being a douche in the comments and decided to neg it.
Learn some humility. It's fine that you wrote a fanboy review; I have at least four or five total fanboy reviews written on this account. For instance, The Smashing Pumpkin's Oceania isn't a 5. Probably more around a high 3. But when I first heard that album, I was so goddamn excited that one of my favorite bands was decent again that I wrote a totally biased review as quickly and emphatically as I could. It would have been a little bit embarrassing if I wrote a review like that professionally, and the feedback here taught me to break that habit of gushing praise, especially prematurely. You can give a positive, excited review while still maintaining a critical tone with your writing. It's been an important lesson for me to learn as a writer, and Sputnik was one of a handful of venues for learning that. You should learn that lesson - really learn it - and improve your craft. If you aren't interested in doing that, go post this in a Chevelle forum or something.
Anyway, album is pretty good. It takes all of my favorite things about Chevelle and concentrates them really heavily across the duration of an entire album. That being said, the album needs a few more curve ball moments to be really great. "Punchline" and "Shot from a Cannon" are the closest things to feeling like that here, and not coincidentally, they're my favorite. I love that they kinda jam a bit at the end of "Shot from a Cannon". There are some really great riffs and bass parts on this thing, too. Unfortunately, the singles are already kinda feeling aged to me-- which isn't a good sign. There's not as much depth or staying power here as there is on La Gargola. That being said, it's probably great work out music.

No I'm still here and plan on writing another review soon. I may be overly defensive but I'm no quitter. Guess that says something about my character right?

Also, it's day three and I still think it's a 5/5. Something about this album gets under my skin and grabs hold. Maybe it's the tone. I could be wrong but to me, it's an instant classic. I admit, I severely overreacted. Also, thank you meme for understanding where I was coming from. It's comments like yours that will help me continue to write and get better.

There ya go, man.
I upped my rating from yesterday, actually. I had it at a 3.5, but I listened to it during my run last night and something kinda clicked for me. The album and style is very straightforward, and I thought of that as a negative thing at first. But then I realized that it pretty much maintains a consistent energy and swagger the whole time. No song overstays its welcome, and that makes the pace really quite brisk. It's lean, its quick, its nasty. I don't buy the instant classic, but it's a damn fine alt metal album. La Gargola is my favorite Chevelle for sure, but this is right behind it, alongside This Type of Thinking and Wonder What's Next.
Does anyone else feel like the last two tracks blend into each other super well? Like seriously, I kinda wish they just made it one track. The main riff from "Got Burned" stops on a dime and then sort of turns itself inside out and transforms into the main riff for "Cannon." They fit together so nicely. I'll just pretend I got the 12 minute song of Chevelle truly embracing their inner Tool, which I've wanted ever since I realized Tool no longer seems to give a shit about making new music (which has been quite a while now).

After about 20 straight listens, this is still a 5. Justified. Period.
