I don’t think it’s good. Bland as hell

I think this album served its purpose of being just good enough to have a few songs linger and it wasn't embarrassing by any measure. Doesn't hold a candle to Translating the Name, but nothing is ever going to

I agree with that.

Lemme rephrase, this one is good enough to show that they have juice left and was tangibly better than what came before, but still kinda veered in a direction that shows they probably aren't really gonna push the envelope. It's about as good of a "reunion" record as I could've hoped. Probably between a 3.5 and a 4 for me

i dont really think the purpose of a return album is to push the envelope much tbf, and usually thats not the case, and often when that is the case people get mad that it went too far into new territory and doesnt sound like what they grew up on lol, see alexisonfire for that

i was always under the impression that beau wrote all the riffs but he couldnt play some of them so he had justin do them. at the very least, i know he did this for translating the name. i also think this albums uh, lack of riffs is pretty easily explainable by beau last minute axing justins parts because he left when they were making it, so there wasnt really time to write new ones in place of them. the new riffs beau posted throughout 2018-2019 were a lot crazier, but idk if they're using that material for the full length

Oh I agree. It's pretty rare that albums do anything to really progress a band. Sure, you have instances like Daughters, Glassjaw, and Brand New pulling it off but those are exceedingly rare instances and as such were lauded more than your average great album.

What Saosin did here was exceed expectations relative to past output, but kinda meet them in a more holistic view. I don't mean for that to sound dismissive and I hope that word salad makes sense lol I really do enjoy this album

Is this actually good? I lost interest after the debut, which was good but not as good as the Translating EP
