Listening to this for a fourth time and more and more it's reminding me a lot of Casualties of Cool.

i actually came round to every song on this thing, including desert island disks. the way the guitar gets that somewhat sinister minor range creeping in is sick

idk god even on the weaker tracks there's still so much the album offers me

There's not a bad song on here. Every one is so beautiful.

I'm going to compare it to Sufjan's last album, because as I remember people were bitching how it wasn't experimental like his last album, but damn people just enjoy the music for once when it sounds so good.

Edit: No I don't think this is best. Better than HTTT though. Probably better than Bends too.

You guys are NOT going to like the review I just wrote for this... Potsy Ryus and the like might... but yeah

But it seemed no one was going to post a 3.5 or 3 review so I felt I had to... still tweaking it though and it needs proofreading...

there are two bad songs and a few mediocre ones

"I'm going to compare it to Sufjan's last album, because as I remember people were bitching how it wasn't experimental like his last album, but damn people just enjoy the music for once when it sounds so good."

thats a really poor defence tho because regardless of whether or not its experimental its still just not up to par with their other work even when that work isn't experimental

i mean my fav radiohead is in rainbows and the large majority of that album is very akin to this, its just done like 4000x more thoughtfully. in rainbows is a safe album, but it still steps outside the box from time to time. this album is even safer, but still tries to step outside the box from time to time, but its really poorly executed sonically and comes off a little disingenuine. the tracklisting appears to have absolutely no thought put into it which is a huge issue because i could make a playlist right now and rearrange the tracks in like 5 various ways that would all make the album work better as a whole. having those last 4 songs clumped together just detracts from each of them as standalones because the pacing is so awful they just blend together into a kitty litter clump that just ends with a bitter taste in your mouth and a desire for more. not to mention the terrible awful dreadful contrast between burn the witch and daydreamer. this comes off like a poorly assembled compilation of b-sides more than anything. i should lower my rating

"How do you love In Rainbows and Kid A so much, but not this..."

they are amazing and this is lackluster in comparison and even the best songs on this arent half as memorable as like the top 7 best songs from either of those

Honestly, I don't mind Desert Island Disk that much, like it's not a highlight, but idk

"Burn the Witch" is the only "bad" song on here I guess.

ok i understand that but can you at least see how the pacing is terrible and clunky and loses basically all momentum by clumping those last 4 tracks together and having daydreaming right after burn the witch? like i can see how as individual songs this would be your bread and butter but you must be able to see some of these flaws.

The only thing I can agree with you about Potsy is the Burn the Witch to Daydreaming switch. It's pretty odd.

Sonically, this is one of their finest moments. Thom has never sounded soooo good. The atmosphere brings me back to Kid A and I absolutely love it.

I don't see the problem with the last 4 songs at all.

Maybe it's the same problem people have with the last 3 songs on OKC which I don't see either? Idk.
