Dunno, after 10 spins it still doesn't click and I have a hard time distinguishing one track from the other (hard time remembering any nice riff or memorable moment really), especially around the middle of the album. It's kinda very monolithic and blurry... and goddamit I wish they wouldn't just stop what they are playing to have suddenly some random bass guitar line or violin coming out of the blue. This isn't edgy, prog or whatever, that's just poor songwriting, failing to build momentum.
After listening the last Ad Nauseam that droped in 2015,,this album sounds really underwhelming (but maybe I was just expecting too much).
Tldr: lack of momentum and contrasts in distorted DM is bad.

The more I listen to dm that isn't Ad Nauseam, the less I enjoy Ad Nauseam. They are so derivative it hurts. While I love their record (probably in the 3.7-4.0 range), the album simply reflects good aspects of better bands, rather than trying in any manner to do something different. TLW, while still blatantly clear on it's inspirations, does still present a sound that is identifiable and somewhat unique. The riff work and structuring of the songs in this album are fantastic imo, and the middle tracks are extremely cohesive, especially "Mutagenesis". The album sounds even more cohesive when put next to NQVOE, which at times resembles the interior of a loaded, functioning washing machine.
After listening to this several times, as well as handful of other dm releases from this year, NQVOE is sounding really underwhelming.
tl;dr: I somewhat disagree with your points, though NQVOE's production kicks ass.

This is top 5 for me so far, still a lot of stuff that should be great to come though. I can't see this falling out of the top 10-15 when it's all said and done though.

New Gorguts, The Body, Moonsorrow, The Poisoned Glass and this are all practically neck and neck for my favorite record so far this year
|
| |
Gorguts was pretty good. The rest not so much.

That must be some strong meth you're smoking cuz theres no way in the holy name of fuck one could dislike this or 10 Swords, at the very least.
I kid, of course but damn.

Zealotry, Howls of Ebb, and Chthe-whatever all fall into the broad spectrum of murky progressive bunk that does nothing for me whatsoever. Moonsorrow is overblown, overly polished nonsense.
Vektor sounds pretty tight but I'm not big on Thrash. I did the non-traditional vocals though.
Gorguts isn't really my style either but I saw them live once and that really changed my perspective. Their tone is just so FAT. They really hit the sweet spot with their production.

@zippa Understandable, certain shit for certain people.
You check new the Grave Miasma EP? If you can get past how trash the percussion is mixed, its solid occultish Death/Doom material
