the first half of golden threads is fantastic but the rest of the album (helena especially) spends far too much time doing pretty much nothing
idk, this probably still needs to 'click' but i have my doubts that'll happen. we'll see
btw guys if you like this and you haven't listened to 'nothing of cities' by years of rice and salt then you are SERIOUSLY missing out

This Very Flight is the best though I wish the ending had a bit more to it. Also the climax for Together Those Leaves is very beautiful, feels so distant.

seeing these guys in 10 minutes. pretty excited.

my god, i cant believe what i witnessed tonight. the whole set was outstanding, but Together Those Leaves... i mean it was beyond phenomenal. on another plane of existence to anything ive experienced live before. Mono's Ashes in the Snow is the only thing that can go toe-to-toe with it. the gig was astonishing throughout. that song though, was absolutely massive, just really loud and full and rich. anyway, here was the set list:
1. Together Those Leaves
2. Dash and Blast
3. Golden Threads from the Sun
4. This Very Flight
Inbetween the second and third song, James read to us an excerpt from a book he wrote, which was a nice change of pace. The end of This Very Flight was something truly special. I'm hesitant to spoil the moment as it took my breath away, but since most here wont get a chance to see the band (I doubt they will tour the states):
as the quiet guitar is playing softly as the album comes to a close. at this point, everyone but the guitarist playing that part picks up hand bells, one in each hand, each corresponding to a different note, and starts softly hitting them to create a tune amongst all of the members, passing the melody along to each other in sequence. they all slowly stepped off the stage and form a semicircle around the audience, hitting the bells gently forming this beautiful melody. for these 5-10 minutes the crowd was absolutely silent. not a sound at all, which is incredibly rare for any band playing a very soft piece of music.
ive seen a lot of bands and ill be the first to admit that i think there are a good number of better albums out there than the ones yndi halda have made. but their live performance was just breathtaking.

minty that sounds like an incredible experience, I'd love to see post-rock like this in concert. That's a pretty amazing setlist too, too bad they played everything except for Helena though.
I'm liking this about the same as Enjoy Eternal Bliss. I'm not surprised that it took 10 years to make this as good as it is.
