Have this darkened heart and this signed by phil labonte. Is a shame that nowdays he has become a massive dick and is sad that the band is now tryin too hard too mimic five finger death punch

My theory is Phil got bitter after Fall Of ideals. They had crafted one of the best albums in the genre but the album didn't sell as well as expected, and so Phil decided he can make twice as much money by trying half as hard and catering to the lowest common denominator. And he was right.
Well when the fall of ideals was released that thing was huge by the standards of 00s metalcore, many people in the scene became fan of ATR, besides the next 2 albums kept many elements of The fall of ideals and this darkened heart. The thing that happen with this band is that since a war that you cannot win he started to dig the sound of 5FDP and besides since overcome his vocal work went rollercoaster downhill

Well sure, overcome and for we are many are not masterpieces but they aren't that bad, the insturmentation is still solid and there are some track worth digging. But since a war you cannot win they became a joke

It's kind of apples and oranges. This is less adventurous and more commercial, but in a good way. Like, this album is what competent metalcore sounds like when pushed right up against the boundary of the mainstream while still keeping its identity fully intact. The album is brilliant in that regard.
But yes some days I still prefer This Darkened Heart, just this album is so impressive to me in how it utilized that dangerous radio-pop influence to its benefit. It's like lightning in a bottle.

Never really gave This Darkened Heart a chance tbh, I should at some point I guess.

That album is incredible. Chorus riff in the t/t is still one of the most intimidating riffs to play fluently, the alternate picking is very precise and unforgiving

I'd say they're both about the same quality-wise, just different beasts musically.

Pretty much. The cool thing about TDH is the influences you don't expect. Like during certain parts of And Death In My Arms and Focus Shall Not Fail there's an undeniable Master Of Puppets vibe going on that was totally dropped after that album which is a shame.
