Johnny Cash may have sang some more somber tunes in his final days but he didn't record a thematic original record, knowing most likely his last with death lingering at the door and released said album to the masses mere days before passing and no one knew of his terminal illness.

I despair not because he is dead but am joyous for him having lived.

No more perfect a swansong in music history than this.

Is this 4.4 because it's so good, or because he ded?

it's kind of a bit of both, apparently the album is Bowie's way of saying farewell to the world

Honestly, because he died. It should be like a 4 or 4.1, but whatever I'm not complaining.

I'll still probably check it out, or at least anything by him. not really that familiar with his work tbh

you're probably better off checking his older material out first then, this is not an accessible album

Yeah Ziggy Stardust, Hunky Dory, Station to Station are the 3 best starting points in my opinion.

This is the first Bowie I've jammed and it clicked with me straight away. Agreed that it's more like a 4 but the events surrounding it have given this a healthy bump.

yeah but not in the way people are thinking. his death reveals a lot more nuances lyrically to the album and gives it a lot more depth and it's easier for people to interpret now.

While I agree with this, it still doesn't make it a 5 for me.

Before Bowie's death it was a 4 that learned towards a 3.5, not it's a 4 that leads toward a 4.5 : )

The two singles off this that I've heard are tremendous, pumped to hear the longer album version of Lazarus
