with the amount of praise you're giving this I'm surprised you haven't bumped your rating Sowing

Album Rating: 5.0
I might, but that would mean admitting that this is as good as The Most Lamentable Tragedy, and I'm not quite ready to do that.

Damn, that sucks, Sowing.
Second listen today blew me away again. I've always felt a major problem with the other Acts is a lack of general consistency so in that regard, this rules. If you had to ask me what my favorite track off this was though, I'd have no clue.
Color Spectrum > IV > II > Migrant > I > III imo

The melodies are the strongest point on this album for me. It also feels more bright and uplifting than anything before, so I think that makes me like a lot more.

Call me crazy but I think Waves is a touch overrated. It's a good song no doubt, but I think it plays it a little too safe and there are definitely several better songs on the album. And this is coming from someone who likes a nice, safe ballad every now and again.
Album as a whole is definitely good, haven't settled on a rating yet.

should I check this if I haven't listened to the other 3 acts?

It really doesn't matter in terms of musical enjoyment, but of course you'll be a little lost on the lyrics.
In a nutshell, the concept is about a former prostitute and her son hunted by corrupted pimp/priest, escapes and spends her time with the son's upbringing in sheltered place by the lake. (act I) After she dies the boy goes to the city his mother fled away from and falls in love with a prostitute, doesn't realize this due to being naive. Pimp takes advantage of him, the boy catches the prostitute during the act, cries and leaves to join the army. (act II) The boy witnesses the horrors of WW1, meets eccentric people and eventually his half brother and biological father, the latter being an absolute ass that just impregnated both mothers as prostitutes and brags about it. Eventually the half brother dies protecting the father, father doesn't give a shit and the boy gets so mad that he poisons him and eventually returns from the war while honoring his half brothers final wish of taking his identity (they look alike) and to take care of his mother (act III).
