Hahahah I wouldn't go that far. Needless to say I'm pleased with how they've managed to progress from Industrialist which reminds of that nap I had earlier.

'I mean, the beauty of the song feels a bit like the maniacal smile of a serial killer.'

maybe for you, i myself find the idea of KI's and transhumanism pretty romantic in a weird way.

I don't see the link between KI and transhumanism unless it's like Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell. Seeing the human body as a prosthetic which can be replaced by another, more efficient and mechanical, and the essence of humanity as some sort of ghost which can attach to either of these prosthetics.

Is it what you refer to ?

not gonna lie, I was a little bored by this. Soul Hacker is easily the best song off of this though. I will listen to this again so I'm hoping I will like it more as time goes on but I'm disappointed.

This one definitely grew on me. It takes a little time because there's more than just instant brutality to appreciate.

Really indifferent on the last song. I'll give them props for experimentation but it ends on a downer.

I haven't heard the bonus tracks. I kind of like how the album ends on the promo I have, so I don't know if I'd ever get them.

I figured there'd be at least one more review of this album by the end of the first day...

It didn't leak so nobody had time to listen to it and write a review properly just in one day. He he.

@Flugmorph

Well, to me transhumanity is nothing more than slowly transforming human beings into vacuum cleaners. As imperfect as it is, flesh will never be metal.

I think our culture/generation has been taking films like Terminator, Blade Runner or Ex Machina a bit to literally. Most sci-fi robots are just metaphores of extreme versions of femininity or masculinity and are used to condemn our obsession with being perfect or our incapacity to accept mortality.

Real robots are nothing but the incarnation of slavery and a society that dreams of merging robots and humans is very likely to simply be fascist and suicidal.

In Ex Machina, aren't the robots just sex slaves ? And isn't it what these two sick guys only want from women ?

Interesting views. I always felt it was a bit romantic too. Like purposefully wanting to replace body parts with cybernetics to gain new abilities sounds awesome... But more could go wrong than anything. And not just for the individual, but for everyone.

Dmax28: "Like purposefully wanting to replace body parts with cybernetics to gain new abilities sounds awesome..."

I've always enjoyed that in sci-fi but it was always through carthartic feelings, like running over pedestrians in carmageddon. I never took it as something I really wanted to happen. Ashley's chainsaw hand in Evil Dead 2 & 3 is awesome, but obviously ridiculous. Furiosa's robot arm I totally loved but it's not something I take seriously either, it's a metaphore for her temper: she's a woman but she's incredibly driven to a point that it's unatural (not exactly a feminist discourse).

So, I love transhumans in fiction, but when it comes to reality, it's another story.

@Flugmorph Ex Machina drove me very uncomfortable. It's a very good film but at some point I felt very worried that this story should even exist. As I said above, some moments in the film really felt like they raised the question: "Do we want women to just be beautiful, entertaining and spread their legs ?" Even though, it might answer "no" it's still pretty awkward to watch, which is fine, my point is, it didn't convince me to like the idea of transhumanity.

"In the short term, there are concerns that clever machines capable of undertaking tasks done by humans until now will swiftly destroy millions of jobs.

In the longer term, the technology entrepreneur Elon Musk has warned that AI is "our biggest existential threat."

These two sentences really made me laugh. In societies in which humans' worth is calculated according to the amount of money they can produce and nothing else, machines are a serious threat yeah, no kidding ?

What else would you expect from them at this point?

Maybe I'll check it.
