imo the run from "magic morning" to "dimed out" is a plateau of quality that the album never reaches again afterward. second half is still amazing but maybe coulda used one more really grand single-type song to beef up the excitement cuz the last two songs being pat singing with like one other instrument is kinda not as exhilarating as gigantic poppy epics like "fatal flaw".

Into the Void (Filler) actually so you know they're dropping dank Sabbath references

You should. It's not perfect all the way through but there are so many worthwhile moments and a few ridiculously great ones.

The atmosphere and guitar (at times) really reminds me of Rush's 2112. Which is, like, the best song ever

First half of the album is magnificent. After "Fatal Flaw", the second half becomes less entertaining minus a few moments in particular (the ending of the filler track, I'm Going Insane, and hell, I like Stable Boy). And yes, I tried listening to just the second half without the first to see if it was the length of the album that turned me off from it, but it was not. Nothing is bad though so it could definitely grow on me.

Yeah the first half is way stronger, you're just bombarded by one great song after another. I'm usually content to stop listening after the Pair of Brown Eyes cover

I feel the same way. The first disc is ridiculous, but the second disc (although still good) is a bit of a letdown and brought my rating down. Still, this is one of the most enjoyable records that's been released this year.

nahhhhhhh second disc is still excellent, it just doesn't have as many big pop singles on it.

I'm beginning to think I may love this as much as The Monitor. It basically packs in everything I want from a Titus Andronicus album and then some. Should be great fun live too.

I have both rated at a 4.5 now, to me they are just about equal. What The Monitor lacks in fun this has, and what this lacks in emotion The Monitor possesses. Just depends on my mood which one I prefer.
