I have a few nostalgia 5s myself, so I totally get it. That said, I’m a bit perplexed as to why this isn’t universally viewed as a genre masterpiece. It does post punk better than most of post punk’s darlings. Sweet Bird and Slow Train are two of the best songs I’ve heard in the genre.
And no I haven’t heard Soul Mining, is that where I go from here?

Yeah, Soul Mining is generally preferred by ‘modern standards/appreciation’ to this one and has the best known tune ‘This is the Day’ on it. Would have been a big influence on Trent Reznor before ‘Pretty Hate Machine’ for one thing, they both ended up signed on Island at the same time too, not sure if they ever toured together.
Dusk is the one to go to if you want to hear Johnson with a full band (inc Jonny Marr) doing more rock centric material (but very atmosphere focused) .

I thought Soul Mining was my favourite for a few weeks there, but Idk; this might be the better of the two, in hindsight.
