I still need to check out some of his other albums, this one is clossic and the new one had some good tunes too.

The follow-up to this is his second best, def give that one a go. The earlier albums are a bit patchy but have some classic tunes of their own.

And the church bells are ringing for those who are easy to please

And the frost on the ground probably envies the frost on the trees

Few songs are as haunting as "Yvette", what a masterpiece.

I might not be a man yet

But your father will never be

So I load up my Weatherby

And I let out my breath

And I couple with death...

Feel like I really need to dig deeper into the lyrics of this thing. I love what I've pieced together, but honestly my attraction to this so far has been largely to the instrumentation and Jason's delivery.

Love that rating Atari and I totally agree - this hands-down has my favorite lyrics of all time

Ash given that you loved his newest there’s no way you won’t love this, get on it

Sturgill Simpson > Jason Isbell and Chris Stapleton but they're all great and I'm new AF to country but happy to see there's INTERESTING country out there.

I think Sturgill's the most talented musically, Jason's the best writer, and Chris got the best voice.. Chris is actually helping other quality country artists get some shine so he's a real one..

thanks again for this rec Boney, this is already one of the most impactful albums I've ever heard!

I see what you mean too about this being a classic regardless of the genre. this is just insanely good singer-songwriter regardless of how much country influence there is/isn't

All truly great albums transcend genre, and this certainly does that as well as any other I’ve heard. Pure humanity captured on tape; I have a hard time believing anybody could genuinely not be at least a little affected by this music.
