"And i only agree with what ComeToDaddy said, it what's I've been saying from the very beginning."
umm

"Okay so to boil it down, I say jazz and classical and the dimension of understanding the musicality of it, is a very essential part to it's enjoyment "

this is what you said^

"That means people educated and uneducated in the theory can have discussions because it's mostly about what the music evokes."

this is what cometodaddy said^, which is in line with what others itt have been touting as we've been arguing with you

The only things you have to assume for my argument to be true is that music is entirely discernible in form. Music has varying degrees of depth and understanding that depth yields a greater appreciation/ability to criticize the music. The ability to criticize the music is the controversial point, but let's say you have reviewer A and reviewer B who are reviewing the 5th symphony. They are the exact same, except reviewer B has a basic and fundamental grasp on the theory behind it. Reviewer B is going to be a better reviewer than Reviewer A.

Johnny, I think both his statement and mine are mutually compatible, barring that I implied that it is "very essential to it's enjoyment", I take that back. I only think it adds more to it's enjoyment.

"I take that back"

THANK YOU

"Reviewer B is going to be a better reviewer than Reviewer A."
I've read some reviews from fairly musical-theory-oriented types that were outright awful and soulless, so I might disagree with you there, but if we assume that a reviewer simply has that little extra edge then hey it definitely gives a bit more to draw from, can't deny that

I agree with Piglet to an extent - knowing theory/having a deeper understanding of harmony, improvisation etc can help you to appreciate the music. Even though one hasn't studied music per se (and doesnt know the terms for diff elements in music etc), most listeners get partly their enjoyment from understanding what's happening ('oh, that's a great chord change', ,I dig the beat', 'I looove the lyrics'). When MOST classical and jazz are a little more complex and less palpable than whatever the fuck btbam you're listening, it easily makes you feel like you're missing out, even though you'd otherwise like it. It can be frustrating not to understand what's going on. I'm not implying that you should know how music and theory work before really digging sone more demanding stuff (musically), but it surely can help you..

This is pretty brilliant btw, again not implying that you should understand jazz musically to embrace it, but it can make the music less overwhelming. Theory is merely a tool to understand the expression, as johhny(?) said before.

It's a bit special this one JT. Kitchen sink thrown at it and it pulls it off, if I see one more monochrome piece of artwork to try and be 'enigmatic' released this year I'm going to have an almighty shit fit though.
