I don't care about the past albums. If I like the music, album is fine for me. This is the reason why I enjoyed new Cynic, Mogwai, Pixies and The Black Keys.

Realistically the music here isn't good and is held back by underdeveloped songs and Anders. The new Cynic has the same problem to an extent where it's too phoned in, not listened to any of your other examples.

This is at 2.64 at RYM at the moment. Still their worst album, but it loses only by a shade to ASOP. I've always been wondering whether their community simply cuts more slack to shitty stuff or there's just more white-knighting In Flames fanboys there.
Also props for the album recommendations, they're great. But I'm not sure if they'd appeal to the intended target audience of this particular album, hee hee

Yeah, if something has 3,5 on RYM, it's fucking amazing, at least equivalent to a 4.1 on Sputnik. But keep in mind that stuff like Emmure is still way below 2.0 there.
And yeah, this album fucking sucks

Well, not with Emmure they don't. Felony has 1.54 there. hee hee. I doubt everyone of those 224 raters listened to it, some probably 1'd it for the precise reason you named... Then again, they don't have anything like rating objectivity there, so maybe.. but I don't think that's a deciding factor either.
