Not their best but there's a lot of good songs here obviously overlooked by the big singles.

Debatable. It's bloated. Overstays it's welcome on a lot of tracks. But that's just me. Demon days and Plastic beach blow this out of the water. The singles on this album are sweet, and there are a few other ok tracks but this album is not the best. Believe me, I've spent a lot of time trying to like this, but it doesn't stick with me the same, and I find it boring. What am I missing?

i mean, it's ok if you don't like it as much.
I think the production style is probably the best out of all their albums. Every track sounds amazing. The variety it brings with every track, yet still managing to sound like its own thing is outstanding. From reggae, to rock, to soul, to pop to dub, to trip hop, to punk, it's the foundation of the gorillaz' ethos. I think that on itself is remarkable, but being able to pull it off with the confidence it does. It's just a formidable state of intention.
I love every track here, too. even the instrumentals. I do happen to have a bit of a bias towards dub and reggae, which this album takes a lot from, so i get that it will not be everyone's cup of tea. DD and PB are the more popular choices and with reason, but damon still hasn't beat tracks like slow country, tomorrow comes today, new genius, re-hash or even latin simone, imo.

Thanks for expounding upon your opinion, and I respect what you said. Maybe I'll pick this up someday and just keep it on repeat in the car or something, but yeah I definitely see where you're coming from.

yeah you fuckin' nailed it, honestly I feel like most people who do prefer this album to the others are the most passionate about it, myself included. Dan & Damon was such a beautiful combo and it fuckin' kills me that they never really worked together again. at least not to this degree.
i was quite young when I first heard this, & the mystique of not really knowing the names and/or faces of the people involved almost certainly heightened the whole experience a bit, but even now when i put this on it is pure bliss, front to back

this has electronic elements and sandwich only likes vapid cookie-cutter alt and indie guitar music so that rating is pretty predictable actually

It was my understanding that Sandwich's ratings are all generated by some kind of algorithm that determines how much the album sounds like Neutral Milk Hotel so a 1.5 actually is a bit below what I expected
