"Saying all this, if they do a world tour with Toshi I am still so there lol."

Bill Ward recently said he's on board for one more performance with Black Sabbath. If Ward and Sabbath can set aside their differences for one more show (or even a small tour, perhaps... one can only hope), I think Yoshiki and Toshi can eventually do the same

But yeah, just for live shows. Not an album, lol

Holy shit thats more than i knew. Pata seems so chill so if Toshi got him mad it must have been something building up for many many years. Everytime i think about that when X first broke up it was because he was brainwashed by a cult just sounds like something out of a movie

I feel like Calc's quotes lend even more credence to these types of legendary bands just going on for too fucking long. Not saying they're as good as X, but Journey is another band I can think of in this regard... they were AOR/arena rock legends in the 70s and 80s, but now -- as a classic rock institution in the 2020s -- they're constantly fighting and getting into legal battles. And Neal Schon is looking more like an asshole with every passing day that Journey is still a band. Sometimes these groups just need to know when to move on, lol

You are saying something there. Have nothing against Journey, but the songs i like from them are from their time with Steve Perry. With X i love everything so i cant accept that they keep on acting like this. I remember on the We Are X documentary too it almost got frustrating because it seemed like they try hard to stay mystical and never give a straight answer about certain things. It might also be a japanese cultural thing idk

For sure. And honestly, instead of Journey, I think System of a Down might be a better American equivalent to what's going on with X Japan right now. Band members not being on the same page, different beliefs, the singer not being nearly as interested in the project anymore, constant in-fighting, no new record in almost two decades, etc.

I get way to worked up by situations like this with bands i like, haha!

Luckily X has such a great run for albums that i rarely get sick of revisiting, so thats at least something

Same thing is happening to L'arc en Ciel, although that's more "I don't really care anymore" rather than real personal animosity. Luna Sea had a "I hate your guts period" but they are doing fine now.

"never give a straight answer about certain things."

That is one reason why despite me enjoying the documentary it was disappointing, they could have made it a lot longer. It's unfortunate the band were at such a high point and then nothing but bad shit kept happening. Toshi's book about his time in the cult is a harrowing read (full translation here: https://juritr.web.fc2.com/toshi/index.html), he gives it all every night and it pisses me off Yoshiki didn't value him as much as he should of.

Maybe it’s residual from the reasons leading to the original breakup? Not sticking up for Yoshiki and it would sound petty on his part, but that original trust could be gone and won’t ever be fully committed to again?

Dunno, spitballin’ over here…

Yeah, frustrating that us the fans will never really know. I know Yoshiki has said that his public persona is the "happy Yoshiki" so i wouldnt be surprised if he finds it hard to come to terms with both the deaths of his former bandmates and that his health is prohibiting him from doing as much music and touring as hed like

Modern X Japan, if it even exists at this point lets be real, is essentially an X cover band. I love Sugizo, hes probably the only guitarist who I think could fill hides role. But even still, the band just feels empty and soulless now. Theres clearly way too much in-fighting with the band, and they should never have reformed in 2007, that much is certain. They were one of the first visual kei bands I ever listened to, so obviously they have a very soft spot in my heart, and that original incarnation is still incredible to me. But at this point, I consider anything post reunion a poor copy- constantly trying to make the band what it isnt, and harming their legacy. As times gone on ive honesfly realized my only real interests lie with hide, he brought a spunkiness and uniqueness that was such a huge part of the groups character- without him, why bother?
