"Umm being culturally relevant and being associated with the genre you stylistically adhere to go hand and hand?"

I'm saying it the other way around, the genre being associated with the artist.

What I mean here by being is that I don't think Drake's going to be the "face" of hip-hop, he has been innovative, and he has been a game-changer in ways, but he's not going to be the most important player in the field

"Have you seen the critical reception Drake has gotten for his albums? Just because everyone 1s Drake's album here without even having listened to them doesn't mean he doesn't get rave reviews everywhere else."

yes, and it's been great. But Kendrick's still more likely to reign supreme

When most think of hip hop what instantly comes to mind is probably Drake, especially core music fans. And, only time will tell. given the fact that Kendrick is newer to the mainstream, he's fresher to audiences and probably will outlast Drake as the most important player in hip hop. But Drake has proved it by now, he has longevity.

"especially core music fans"

This part confused me, what would you call a "core" hip-hop/music fan?

The fact that Drake is so huge in the United States is only testament that this country is a downward spiraling idiocracy.

dude Drake is NOT culturally relevant in hip hop culture, sales have never been that relevant to

your role in the culture, but regardless, he is selling most of his CDs to middle-upper class

teenage girls.

Virtually no one over a certain age gives a fuck about him, this dude couldn't even go to most rap

battles because the underground hip hop scene despises him so much. Calling this guy a leader of hip

hop culture is basically an insult to hip hop. I don't wanna hear about the handful of breadcrumbs

he threw back to some charities, the guy is a multi millionare and he doesn't really do shit for the

hip hop community except parody it and make it a dumbed down RandB hybrid mix.

hip hop culture is not equal to rap or people who listen to rap. Drake is irrelevant in hip hop

culture, or despised, he is a pop star and nothing else.

honestly if you want to talk hip hop culture and who should be associated with the word HIP HOP

today, its Eminem. He has the same notoriety, if not more than, Kanye, Drake and Kendrick. He truly

lives the shit and is dedicated to the art and not the sales/money. He is as witty as anyone (sorry

Kanye). His delivery is second to none (sorry kendrick). He actually has some self respect, and wont

rewrite his lyrics to what a record exec says will sell (sorry Drake).

What is hip hop culture to you, Lambs? Is it a holistic representation of the five pillars? A manner of

dress, a particular brand of music? What is it to you? Saying things like "he is selling most of his CDs to

middle-upper class girls" and "Virtually no one over a certain age gives a fuck about him" are completely

empty insults that can't be substantiated in anyway.

"breadcrumbs" he has no social responsibility or any real obligation to help out and provide charity, but he

does anyway. He takes the initiative more than most other hip hop artists would. and FYI Drake runs his own

imprint, a subsidiary of Warner Music Group yes but I doubt he has execs hounding him over creative control

given the fact that everything he makes is an absolute goldmine. As a matter of fact, before he even made it as a rapper and was being scouted by labels, he made sure to pick out a deal that gave him near autonomy over his creative process so he could develop as an artist.

You have good taste but idk, most people i've seen listening to Drake are relatively young girls who

generally have awful taste in rap.and it definitely seem like he gets most of his sales from fans

that probably couldn't tell you who KRS-One is. For that, combined with the handful of cringe-worthy

soft tracks i've heard from him (virtually only his singles), combined with his dorky/douchey

attitude, is enough to keep me away from his albums and keep him forever on my shitlist.

I'm not saying he owes anyone anything. I'm just saying the pitiful amounts of charity he is

involved in is not enough to make up for my original opinion that hes an overrated narcissistic

douche. lets move on, this argument is over as far as I am involved, i'm not talking about Drake

anymore.

Hip Hop Culture, to be short, is loosely a continuation Civil Rights/Hippie Movement, it was the

promotion of a SUCCESSFUL lifestyle through peace, love, unity and having fun. I don't believe

that's just my opinion, I think it's historical fact.

Alright Lambs, but one last thing. This is a direct quote from KRS-One on a blog that has interviewed him

on numerous occasions. Somewhat dated, but eh.

"I think Drake represents Hip Hop these days. I know people would cringe at me saying that but I really

love the young kids coming up in the kulture these days. They young and they stupid like we was but what

they are representing culturally is accurate."
