The last song actually gets on my nerves, even though that vocal melody is so fantastic. Repeating that same bit for three minutes gets old by the second listen-through.

"I think the intensity is still there in how it goes from subtlety to bombast in a very natural fashion instead of it being like, say, a Russian Circles song where they only have stark contrast and nothing else."

Woah woah woah woah.........woah.

*sigh* Carry on.

I still like Russian Circles. Russian Circles are just incredibly dramatic, if they were classical

music they'd be something like Wagner or Holst. The entire dynamic they go for is hard contrast to

accentuate their moods and recurring motifs.

Yes, I suppose that's especially true for Memorial.

"I played in ALCEST. In the beginning. I composed the best riff in ‘Tristesse Hivernale’, the searing riff of ‘La Forêt du Cristal’. But at the behest of Neige, ALCEST became an Eden of elegant and overly nice fairies, the pastoral dream of a tender hobbit’s brain. To put it bluntly, ALCEST became a fairytale country. So I had to carve out my own path…I took a shit in those cute flowery groves, sodomised the fairies, and put those elves to bed with a dose of rat poison to allow the song of the toads to flourish. Yes, I made PESTE NOIRE…because PESTE NOIRE was born only to fuck shit up."

That's the point. Totally understand his viewpoint, though.

I know Famine's comment is tongue in cheek but there are peeps who actually think like that. As incredulous as it may sound to them, you can actually enjoy both Peste Noire and Alcest's fairy dust WHOA

I've had this for a week now and all I ever get from it is 'sleepy-time-behind-the-wheel-and-almost-drive-off-the-road' kind of vibe. The album floats with the same dynamic throughout and offers nothing in the way of contrast (which I loved about Neige's previous work). He went all in with this and made a boring ass album.
