"The style of music ALLB employs is much to deep and textured to understand with a skimmed through judgment."

I love this album, but this kind of thinking seems a bit unfair. Some people will listen to some of this and not really dig it much-- that isn't on them, just some people don't desire to put much effort into a release like this. and that judgment isn't devalued because it's their immediate one, y'know?

I mean I get what your saying, but its sort of what the music requires. This is sort of one of those albums that's a you get what you give. You'll enjoy it a lot more if you give it serious thought or if you are a musician who respects the band for what they create. They're in one of those avant garde niches.

just because somebody listens to something and doesn't like it doesn't mean they don't understand it. by that logic, I should just listen to everything ive ever disliked till i "understand it" like everyone who likes it supposedly does

this band is really not that avant-garde. like on the scale of avant-garde (1 being not avant garde in the slightest and 10 being the most avant-garde thing ever) theyre like a 6

theyre weird, but not so weird your gonna have to listen to over and over till u get it

I get what you're saying, but I don't think an introductory opinion of something is less valid just because it's introductory, you get what I'm saying? A song like "No Place" is very hard to grasp on the first listen, and just because it makes more sense with future listens doesn't mean that first impression isn't worth considering.

i guess that with this kind of music, there's this kind of thinking that goes "just listen to it more, it'll make more sense," and while yes, that's true, there's also something to be said for the listener without understanding the artist's background, the observer that's experiencing the music for the first time. like how a foreigner stepping into a different country and observing what they see can be far more revealing than the perspective of someone who's lived in that place for years.

Def don't think someone has to thoroughly understand something like this to have a fully appreciable opinion on it-- different strokes, and while a more in-depth opinion is more relatable to us long-time fans, it too is helpful to hear what outsiders of this style of music have to say about it

I get what your saying with that. I'm not saying that any average joe should just listen to this album a bunch of times to get it, I'm just saying that for the most part someone who does not get this is going to have a really hard time enjoying most of it unless they put some work into getting it. Most of the negative opinions on this album have come from people who don't care enough to try. They probably heard No Nature and formed an opinion.

Honestly I disliked the first two tracks a lot, after the first few listens or so there were only two or three songs I really liked. But after listening more and dissecting the songs (especially the more unstructured and chaotic ones) I started loving it and in the short time I've been listening to it, its already really grown on me.

@MortimusPrime I mean understanding the music at a level that allows you to properly appreciate what the artist was intending the listener to feel after and during listening.

Yeah, probs, and that's a natural thing for them to do. I know I turn shit off when it rubs me the wrong way, and this is a pretty inaccessible album. My main point is that there's nothing wrong with it, esp since we all have to be choosy with what music we spend time w/

Yes, this is complex, and those willing to give it the light of day will probs appreciate it more because of that fact, prob bc they already like complex things. But it sounds like you're looking down on people who don't want to give it a chance, which is less than justified

I will prolly listen to the new DGD more than this cuz it's more pick-up-and-go while this is completely not that.

I don't mind if someone doesn't want to give it a chance, that couldn't bother me less. What bothers me is when someone does not give it a chance and forms an unsupported negative opinion and talks down on people who like it.
