Not mathematically possible. Try again. Actually don't. I was never here.

17 crimes and i hope you suffer stick out like sore thumbs too
Disagree, they fit the theme pretty well and flow nicely into the other songs (especially 17 Crimes into The Conductor).

AFI definitely definitely come across as a more confident band here than on their last two albums, if I'm honest, since some of these songs are arguably the best in the band's career so far. Sometimes the fact that Havok's vocals doesn't quite fir the instrumentation nags at me a little, making songs such as 'I hope you suffer' and 'The conductor' a bit weaker, but it's nothing that wouldn't make me want to listen to this album again.

Still a bit too glossy for my tastes, but leaps and bounds better than their last album. Some good tracks sprinkled in but still just sounds a bit tame. Like they're holding back or something. I don't know. Can't quite place my finger on it. Some great tracks here though. I like the second half a whole lot better than the first. Second half smokes the first. Bit of a grower.

I Hope You Suffer sounds a lot like NIN's Everyday Is Exactly The Same during the verses

A lack of songs that sound like I Hope You Suffer make me a dullboy.

That's not even the best song on the record.

This just doesn't do it for me.
IMO the last great album they made was Sing The Sorrow, although Decemberunderground had a couple cool moments

It's not the best song, but I really like the tone they have on it and one's similar on the album.

The Embrace is the only song I feel should have been left off the record, or at least replaced with something else, but I guess it fits in context. Sounds more like a Blaqk Audio song. Coincidentally, The Embrace was forgotten about until Jade was browsing through some files on his laptop and found it. They would later, obviously, put it on the record.

I really want to get into this, but no matter how hard I try, it's still meh. Nothing feels amazing.
I feel like I'm doing something wrong, since everybody loves this record... sigh.

I don't see how anyone likes this more than Crash Love or Decemberunderground. DU was way more like STS than this and Crash Love's best was way better than this album's best. I also can't get over how average Davey's performance was which is annoying because he did a lot better on Bright Black Heaven

I can't agree with any of that, especially the 'DU is way more like STS' statement.

How was 'A Deep Slow Panic' not released as one of the 1st 2 singles?
Californian rockers AFI continue to refine their distinctive sound on 9th LP 'Burials'. Darker than predecessor 'Crash Love', yet no less hooky, this Gil Norton produced album delivers a number of grandiose anthems. Out front, Davey Havok's versatile vocal range adapts well to the electronic flourishes & dense layering which enhances atmosphere. It's front-loaded & a couple of tracks over-long (or requires extra variety), but this LP is undoubtedly intriguing. It's gothic, it's industrial, it rocks & it pops... 'Burials', quite simply, is the evolution of AFI. Recommended Tracks: A Deep Slow Panic, 17 Crimes, Greater Than 84 & I Hope You Suffer.

I Hope You Suffer was never a single. 17 Crimes was the first single and A Deep Slow Panic is the next single.
