Prog is dead within the mainstream at least. They're not exactly doing anything new

The spirit of prog has been dead for a long time. Prog rock is one of the least exciting "genres" out there these days compared to how it used to be.

maybe for you JT but do you realise how many people dig that alt rock "prog" sound that karnivool and those kinds of bands do

I do realise that yeah. That's just my opinion, obviously.

Tempest is right. The Pineapple Thief are doing some great things combining electronic elements with alt-rorck and prog. The Messenger album this year was a great folk-prog rock album and Colored Sands was one of the best prog records I've heard in years recently

Still don't think those alt-prog bands are really true to the spirit of prog though.
