whats with jim using "things" so often in invented? "its just a little thing, buried in the other things". such lazy songwriting.

Yea they've moved on from their "futures" days. However, I wouldn't mind something else like futures. Futures and clarity are my favorites. I hope this one is awesome too. I'm hearing great things.

Minty to be honest you seem to be complaining about all the little things (pun intended, I'm sorry) on Invented. You need to view it as a whole because as a whole it's legitimately one of the best albums I've ever heard, whereas this works more as a set of parts with a few weak ones (Lean, How'd You Have Me).

but seriously, I hate it when bands/artists do that.

Do what? Repeat lyrical phrases? Like Byebyelove, perhaps? It's hardly just Invented that's guilty of that.

the overuse of the extremely general lyrics such as "things"

It's not as if Adkins has always written about the most creative of subjects. Almost every song he
writes is about relationships, just like every other pop-punk band out there. What makes Jimmy Eat
World different is the ridiculously honest and moving way that they write about the subject, and
Invented was the peak of that.

It's not as if Adkins has always written about the most creative of subjects so you're saying that I should lower my standards because lol, it's JEW/pop punk we're talking about! What makes Jimmy Eat World different is the ridiculously honest and moving way that they write about the subject, and Invented was the peak of that. this is very debatable.

No I'm saying singling out one song in a genre like pop-punk for repetition is a bit pointless. Of course it's debatable man, it's just my opinion.

I'm not complaining about repetition, I'm complaining about poor lyric writing.

Well what I'm trying to say is, JEW aren't a remarkable band because they avoid using generic lyrics, or avoid using cliches, cos they don't. What makes them remarkable is that they take those generic lyrics and subjects and cliches and just lay them out in such an open and honest way that it's hard not to be moved by it. I'm not sure if you're a fan of these guys, but if you are, I think you'll probably agree that it's their emotion that sets them apart from their peers, not any sort of technical skill.

....he wasn't lazily reusing a word. It's pretty direct follow on from the previous sentence, reusing a word like that is a genuine poetic technique.
And minty. No I haven't seen many extremely negative reactions. Most that are more negative are just saying its okay instead of brilliant. Hell I still gave it 3.5

Jimmy Eat World can be considered pop punk on some of their albums. But Futures certainly shouldn't be considered that.
