Slaves is garbage

Unpopular Opinion: Slaves isn't terrible. I feel like both the first and the second albums are relatively uninspired, but Jonny breathes life into all of his work. The most recent Slaves album is actually pretty good too.
On an unrelated note, WISIRO is fucking sick as hell and the fact that it gets overlooked so much helps add fuel towards my hatred of the modern DGD fanbase sometimes.

yeah this band is something else entirely now and this is some of their best work, some of my favorite screamo as well
this raw real sound > super polished overproduced clean sound

Mess was best messy vocalist in the early days.

I prefer new dgd. I didn’t start with new though. I started with DBM and Happiness. Loved them. Haven’t listened to this in forever but I’m gonna rejam their discog when I get a chance. I appreciate all sides of the band a lot. I just find the newer stuff more enjoyable lol

I guess I prefer new DGD, but I have all their albums and probably listen to them somewhat equally. Happiness is my favorite, but overall I think Tilian era is the band at their most consistent. I totally get why people don’t like the super polished sound they have with Tilian, but I personally love it.

slaves is terrible tho imo
I know mess is embarrassed by this and he thinks he got a lot better, but he really didn't. he just became a meme and his more recent screaming doesn't sound like actual screaming anymore, just an odd voice he puts on. his screams were best on dbm1 I think.

idk how anyone can like the Tilian era, it eludes me entirely. his lyrics and singing don't match at all and he's pretty cringey I think. It makes me sick how much he fucked this band up to the point where new records from them mean nothing to me. I used to get soo hype for their new releases, especially dbm2. bring back kurt or jonny

It’s funny because, since Tilian joined, I find myself enjoying the earlier work a little less. Anytime I go back to listen to it, I just miss Tilian’s higher register with the music. Don’t get be wrong, I still enjoy tf out of it, just not as much as since Tilian joined. Different strokes I guess

every fan of this band has their favorites, Tilian just does nothing for me personally. a lot of people think happiness is their best and I think that album is very close to sucking. will's screaming is bad, no mess, and only the last track is great. it's too bubbly and colorful and the songs aren't very well done, barely any riffs. but people love it, so at least there's something for everyone.

Yeah, I get it. DGD, new stuff especially, is very love em or hate em. I just love the bubbly, poppy side of DGD best, which is why Happiness and the Tilian Era are my favorites and probably why Deathstar is my least favorite. I just like a little goofy bubblegum in my DGD I guess. Like you said they’re so diverse that there’s something for everyone.

idk man, i pretty much disagree with this entirely. i think his lyrics and singing go so well together. his style has that inherent poppiness but he delivers the usual lyricism of that kind of music with this weird, obscure style of lyrics that makes you scratch your head at first but then hits like a hammer when you get it. a lot of it is over-sexualized, but whatever, i find that plays into it's more mainstream inclinations. i think jonny was WAYYY more cringely than tilian personally, but then again silly lyricism punctuated by a poignant thought every now and then is kind of what this band is about, so.

I've enjoyed a lot of Tilian's work with the band, but not quite on the level that I enjoyed the work of the other lyricists. Tilian feels a lot less emotional in his delivery, and at times even insincere. Jonny and Kurt always felt like they were pouring a piece of themselves out onto the track instead of just writing a song. I still like modern DGD, but I can't shake the feeling that if they had focused on Mess a little bit more (like Secret band) and gone with a different vocalist (or continued with Kurt or Jonny) then modern DGD would be releasing masterpieces.

Mess's screaming got way better over time imo, but I still enjoy his delivery on the early stuff. Deathstar has some of his best lyrics and I don't mind his vocals there at all.

He's good here, a little better on DBM, a little worse on s/t, starting to find his way on DBM 2 and then finally the Mess I know and love by AS

On a totally unrelated note, anybody know where I can get this EP? It’s the only DGD release I don’t have and everywhere I look is either sketchy af or it’s a rar file.
