I don't think they wanted to be perceived as anything in particular. Take the best songs out of the
trilogy and you would have one of Green Day's best albums. The band stated back in the summer that
they were at a new height of creativity, and in my opinion, that ended up being true. The issue here is
that it seems GD is having trouble making the songs interesting without including too many ideas at
once. Apparently the bands' sense of "balance" is off, and take a look at American idiot if you want to
witness Green Day with good balance.
Billie thought three albums would be a reasonable number for the material created, but it seems he
stretched it a bit too far. I actually feel two albums would have been perfect. That is as long as
GD knew which bits of material were more enjoyable.

^that's true. If they had trimmed these 37 songs into a 14-16 songs album, it would've been really good. Maybe release a B-Side record with the rest of them. This way it's such a bloated affair and it drags down the better tracks too.

Can't we just let the people who enjoy it comment here? All this Green Day bashing is so boring and predictable...

On a second listen I find some songs that really grow on me. Still, some lyrics are just really bad. I really enjoy X-Kid, Missing You, 99 Revolutions and 8th Avenue Serenade right now.

This is the best of the trilogy.

I think this one is more of a grower than the others, as after a few listens some tracks are really enjoyable. If you like Warning, this is the closest to it from the trilogy.

Honestly to me, this was the 21st Century Breakdown of the group. Trying for something that could be great but falls short in just about every way possible. I listened to the album about 4 times before outing out this review and really thought about what I wanted to say. I was raised a Green Day fanboy and the end result of iTre! is mediocre disappointment at its finest. I'm not jumping on the Sputnik hatewagon for Green Day, I have a lot of respect for their earlier works.
Insomniac15, I was saying that maybe this is their final sh-bang before releasing something REALLY mind blowing like American Idiot was. Maybe they wanted the public eye to view them as a mediocre aging pop-rock(s and coke) group so their comeback album that (theoretically) comes out in two or three years will melt everyone's minds. Many apologies if this point wasn't made clear enough in the review.
Thanks for all the POS's and thanks to all those who read the review! It really does mean a lot!

Yeah, you should.
At least listen to X-Kid and Dirty Rotten Bastards first. Then proceed accordingly.

What's funny is you could probably take the best material from all 3 and make a pretty decent album
|
| |
giving this a more serious listen now. X-Kid is maybe my favorite song off all 3 albums so far
