Even if this review is beyond well written, I don't think you managed to explain how mediocre this
was to you. All you did was point out, in a very very general manner, how average was the
songwriting without getting specific and then you go and commend things that, in your words, are
"impressive". Also, even if they don't progress much musically (specifically the vocals), doesn't
mean they released a mediocre/average product since is pretty solid.
EDIT:"It is quite easy to talk up the better moments of the album, because they really do impress.
Yet all the little missteps are much more difficult to describe, as much of the record is so
insubstantial that it evades an in depth description."
That shows me you acknowledge this, but next time be a hell more specific about the negative stuff
since this was a very confusing read.

I think Rosemary and Tempest are easily the best songs, but beyond those and maybe leathers its a bit flat and predictable. Sigh.
