Atavan: I'm not saying that people should make their judgement on an album based on one song. Most of the time the first single is not the best song anyway, and in lots of cases it isn't even supposed to be.

I'm just saying...most people DO make just that sort of judgement, and the artists and labels know it. That's why artists and labels put out the first single, for the very purpose of judgement. That first song is how they want themselves/their artist to be perceived, or judged. Doesn't mean it's right, but that's the way music is.

usually it's rather inaccurate but sometimes it really is. I listened to Tyga's singles and they were awful, then listened to his whole album and found out that one of the singles is by far the best song on the album (still really bad), and the other single (rack city) was probably the worst on the album.

^ What andcas said. Look at the likes of Foster the People, fun., etc. Average artists that would never have the audience they now do without their huge singles.

and yeah Cygnatti it's really hit or miss. Nobody listens to full albums anymore it really irritates me.

Actually true for T-Swiffer too. If it hadn't been for 'Tim McGraw' and then 'Teardrops on My Guitar' back in the day, she would never be anywhere either. I mean, she was shopping her music to record labels in Nashville since she was 13...didn't catch her break til her single caught.

all time low's cover of umbrella is awesome still

well, fun. may have gotten famous with we are young, but that song is incredibly average, as is most of the album barring some nights the song (and intro). a&i really is much much better.

I don't really like foster the people, but the bassline on pumped up kids was better than the rest of the song

I already said that earlier. I'm rather ashamed she got famous with teardrops on my guitar, that song is so bad.

lady gaga is a good singer, sure she uses tons of autotune but she's a good singer

ex: in her new album, she is much better vocally than before, yet her first album is significantly better than born this way

All this just goes to show...maybe the singles aren't always very good, but their importance goes beyond quality. FTP, fun., Swift, and even Rihanna have all written songs better than their big singles, but none of them matter as much.

"apparently she doesn't think her talent alone is enough because she tries way too hard to be weird."

I know, it's ironic that she tries to dress and act weird and sometimes actually is really weird, but a lot of her new music is just...

and I like lady gaga, but her little monster fans are the worst.

Also...Gaga definitely beats Taylor in the "gimmick" department. Just for the record.

funny, it was only after listening to born this way that I started to appreciate her first album.

the singles there were pretty killer. bad romance is almost completely derailed by it's bridge though.

being gay means nothing when it comes to musical taste
