WOW, this is actually a fucking incredible classic HM album! How have I never listened to these guys before?

They were severely overshadow'd by Queensryche. Album rules though agreed.

Yep, this would have been well-deserved metal album of '88 if it hadn't been for Mindcrime. And I feel like CG had a Mindcrime in them, they just never got around to make it due to their nonsensical change in style following this

First 2 albums are gold

I'd say this is gold and s/t is silver, but both are awesome, yeah

"Painted Skies" is such a fun, power jam on this. m/

Strange and Beautiful ain't that bad tho, it's a fun glam metal album, reminded me a lot of Skid Row's Slave to the Grind which is often praised on here and elsewhere

Slave to the Grind does rule. Too bad Sebastian is such a whiney cuck now

S&B is an okay album in itself. I kinda hate what it stands for though.
Astronomica is worse tbh

Ya I haven't even touched those two

Astronomica tries to mimic their early prog power style but without Midnight and really everything else that made them good. It isn't terrible, but absolutely bland and generic.
|
| |
Yeah saw your thoughts on Astronomica...
I kinda hate what it stands for though.
What would that be to you? Genuinely curious

Hm, that would be a band that still has potential to say new things with their style and explore what they can do with it turning away from that style, not to expand their sound but to do something completely uncalled for and not at all fitting with their discography. As a side-project it would have been okay but they basically slaughtered a promising evolution
|
| |
Yeah, I can agree with that... What could have been had they continued in this style, similar to what a third Toxik album could have been or a Priest album after Painkiller (had Halford not left), but worse because we DID get the third album, but it wasn't anything like their previous work

So like opeth

Yeah, that was because it was too late, the momentum was gone ... and so was Midnight. Sometimes I wonder how a concept album like Mindcrime would have turned out if they had done one after this ...
Edit: Opeth said all that could be said with their old style imo. Regardless of how good or bad their new albums are, a change after Watershed was logical as far as I see it.
And Opeth aren't THAT far from their older sound now compared to what CG did with S&B
|
| |
Opeth did, like, 5 albums (long albums too, 60+ minutes each iirc) in their signature style before changing their sound, that's ample material if you ask me, versus a couple of 45 minute albums from a band that doesn't even exist anymore lol

Glad to see the thread alive after a long time, the band needs way more love on Sput.
