First song is definitely my favourite. Strange how it's also their least death metal song on the album. That short track is so dumb though.

Since apparently the definition of "Progressive music" is eluding people, I thought I'd give my personal take on progressive music. This would line up with most people's definition, I at least hope -

Progressive Music is music that is complex on a larger scale, whether that be a song to song basis, or an entire album basis, or an entire band basis. In other words, if you have 20 minute songs, or concept albums, etc, that's a complex song or album structure. Technical music, however, is music that is complex on a small scale - intricate riffing and drumming, odd time signatures, etc. You can have technical music be 2 minutes long, and it's still technical. But if you have a 13 minute technical song, that's both technical and progressive. A Technical Death Metal band is a band like Spawn of Possession. A Progressive Death Metal band is a band like Opeth. A Technical AND Progressive Death Metal band is a band like Gorguts. Gorguts also happens to be one of the most innovative bands of our time.

As for this new Faceless album, skip it. Listen to Devin Townsend's Deconstruction. Listen to any random Opeth album. Listen to Planetary Duality. Listen to Cattle Decapitation's new album Monolith of Inhumanity. And if you want a prog tech masterpiece, listen to Gorguts' "Obscura". That album seriously needs a proper follow-up. It's a shame that that album is the only album of it's kind.

If I'm not a fan of PD and I hate Akeldama, is there any chance I will like this?

There is actually a possibility you will like this since both of those albums are great and this album is fucking garbage. I wouldn't bet on it though

I'm surprised at a lot of the albums you have rated 4+ and yet you don't like this bands earlier efforts. What don't you like about 'em?

Eh it's just generic wankery to me, like most modern tech death albums.

I think their debut is their best because it has a unique sound as opposed to PD but I understand where you're coming from.
