On the concept of "white rap" its just like any other form of music. In that people usually listen to music that relates to them emotionally, culturally, stylistically, etc. There are exceptions of course but most of us dont listen to much foreign language music. We tend to stay within English for the most part. Unless the music is just too good to pass up, thats how it is. Then it just narrows down from there.

If you're a white dude from NY or LA you'll prob relate more to a white rapper than some trill black dude from the south. Same reason why I dont listen to much country. Its just so far away from how/where I was raised that it has no appeal to me at all outside of a couple artists. Its TOO fuckin white lol. But if I grew up in Texas Id prob like it more.

Im not saying anything new here but yea. I can see why black dudes from the projects might not dig these kind of albums. Doesnt make them any less good or "trve" or anything though. Hip Hop isnt just a black thing anymore. Go to any big hip hop show and most of the crowd will probably be white.

To argue against your point, I've lived in the South (Georgia specifically) my whole life, and never ever ever listen to anything even slightly close to country music.

I guess what I'm saying is that there's definitely a correlation based on where you live, but that there are also very many exceptions.

Yea definitely. Like I said it could be big or small, but external factors do play a part in most people's tastes.

I try to be open minded and listen to music regardless of all that, but its still there.

Right, absolutely.

I definitely don't think that should warrant people to avoid this album, though - even though I don't usually listen to artists like Killer Mike, I definitely could appreciate his latest offering you know? There's some great stuff here that all types of music fans could enjoy, and it seems silly to label this "white person rap", and isolate the fanbase like that. Because yeah sure, possibly most DTS fans are white, but there are so many more people that could appreciate it out there.

Yea I actually didnt really like the Killer Mike album that much either because of the country/southern vibe Omaha.

I mean it had a couple great songs but Ive just always liked more NY style hip hop, cuz thats where Im from.

I have a bunch of great west coast, midwest, and southern hip hop albums but nothing compares to the NY stuff to me.

Not only because thats where it started but because it just sounds so "right" for this area.

Its hard to explain since music should just be music regardless of all that stuff but there is something about certain

sounds that just emanate out of certain places and dont vibe so well with others.

Haha, honestly dude I feel the same way as you regarding hip-hop and its heritage, that kinda thing. I don't like Killer Mike too much, mostly because it has that southern vibe to it. Although I've been in that area my whole life, I just much prefer the more urban setting.

I never listen to hip-hop but this album is nasty. And Aesop Rock's new one is pretty swell also

^that's been rumored for like 3 years, but I've never heard much other than "it's supposed to happen"

also the cool thing about R.A.P. Music is that it pairs a southern rapper with a NY producer. Pretty

unique sound.
