Agreed so hard Mars, this still their best by planetary margin, but their more straightforward efforts rule too on their own.
Early Mourning and Extinguished Innocence are prob my favs on the new one

Is the prelude considered an essential part of this? What’s the story there?
It seems decent enough. Hell of a gargantuan runtime with it included though

yeah, the pacing on this beast is marvellous!
Doom / post / sludge done right. Suffocating atmosphere, v bleak and dark but not without hints of respite (however slight they may be). Removing the prelude (which is cool by itself) makes this a 74 min single song behemoth, which usually feels futile and repetitive to a fault tbh, yet this doesn’t

The prelude is very extra as far i can tell, it's not in the original release, you'll do fine without it

Exactly ! it doesn't feel like it drags, it keeps progressing slowly but steadily.
This is a concept album about one of the worst roman emperors, so i like to think about it as a deeply bleak and dark storytelling (even if i don't understand a single word), when you acknowledge the backstory it pushes the whole atmosphere even further, it is absolutely amazing
