Okay, so I just got back from seeing The Hunger Games and here's my conclusion: totally awesome. I loved the portrayal of their morally disfigured high-society, and the acting was superb. A lot of the criticisms about the movie being 'cheesy' or 'too emotional' seem very unfounded to me now. Of course it's cheesy/emotional, but why wouldn't it be? In the face of death, I'm sure we'd all be as emotional. Also, did anyone else notice that Steve Reich's Music For 18... came on when the games first began?

My only criticism is that the camera work was very shoddy at points, especially in the final sequence, which made it a little difficult for me to be really 'in the moment'.

Agreed Gyro about everything, including the last scene

yeah i agree as well. the sentimentality was a bit overdone at times, but considering this is a movie primarily targeted at a young adult/teenage girl audience, it was pretty manageable.

High five, Sowing =]

Duderino: Really? I don't feel like it pertained more to one gender than the other.

this was awesome but it was his "Three Movements"

i thought the shaky camera was cool during the beginning imo but lame during the battle scene when they were fighting the dogs and that one guy on top of the building thing

the movie was a serviceable adaptation the only thing that was really shit was the fucking shaky cam and cutaway and the overly used 'mute everything and play the uninspired score' technique

I agree with this so fucking much.

maybe i'm just jaded to interpret the text's inclusion of a hilarious tacked-on love triangle between katniss-peetah-that other dude as pandering to teenage girls, but that's certainly how it felt to me. didn't detract from my enjoyment of it but nonetheless felt unnecessary

Plot line is too silly for my liking, I found the games to be a really dumb idea of how the kapitol could exert its power over the districts. Iunno, I had my next few months all planned out. I would plow through all three books but now I realized it's not for me.

And the shaky camera? Fuuuuuccckkkkk

I cannot reconcile the bear-dogs at the end of the film.

I expected the mutts to be much more gruesome looking. They looked like glorified pugs in the movie.

I hate The Twilight series with a passion. This movie was excellent though. Totally in a different league.
