I don't think there is another piece of music in television history that fits the tone of the show as well as Laura Palmer's Theme does with Twin Peaks.
that video of Angelo explaining how he wrote it is just incredible

That’s my grandmas take, we both only watched it once and I didn’t read up on the production of it so I have zero idea of what to make of it if I’m being honest. I’m still confused as to that glass box in that skyscraper the guy had to record 24/7.
I do know that some of it was filmed out in my town tho lol

The glass box was a trap that Booper set for Cooper to get his soul fuckin shredded by The Mother while trying to pass through to this world cuz big boop dawg didn't wanna go back to the lodge

it's far more psychedelic than the other seasons... but that's how Lynch rolls
In the first seasons the psychedelia was restricted to be a kind of soap opera in television and by co-writer Mark Frost. Season 3 is just Lynchiann madness unleashed
Just as sometimes music doesn't need to have a meaning, you don't need to understand the series either, just enjoy it as a form of art (something lynch said in an interview and changed my way of looking at some films)

Who was the Mother? We only see (hear) that character banging on the door in e3 or 4, right?

There is this crazy 4-hour video where a guy explains in amazing details what the show might actually be about past the Laura story. A lot of what he mentions makes sense, so yeah, I don't know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AYnF5hOhuM

his taste in music is ace too, with all the bang bang bar scenes and whenever he arranges the 'festival of distruption' events

"Who was the Mother? We only see (hear) that character banging on the door in e3 or 4, right?"
No, she is basically the main villain of season 3. She bangs on the door yes, she is also the creepy alien in the box that eviscerates poor sweet Tracey and her boyfriend. She is also the creepy alien that splooges out the bob blob and the frogroach egg and all the phantom hobos. She is also the spirit that posesses Sarah palmer.

You're killing me Angelo!
|

Basically she is the Ying to the giants Yang. She is Bob and all the other greater and lesser evil spirits mom. She's been the real big bad all along
|
| |
bob is her disciple of evil as Laura is the giants agent of innocence in equal measure
