It's possible, but I just don't like the whole "djent" thing at all.

I never bought into this "Djent" fad. However i've liked Meshuggah for a long time which allowed me to get into stuff like Textures. These guys and Uneven Structure are pretty cool at what they do.

I'm not a real big fan of Meshuggah either, which is why I'm hesitant to check any similar bands out. I feel like if Meshuggah is the best of all the "djent" bands and I don't like them, then there's no hope for me to like any other bands similar to them.

That's a bit drastic.

Wow you're even more of a retard than I thought. Once again, if you look at my ratings, I'm the last person you can pull the elitist card on. So you wanna try again or do you just wanna stop making yourself look stupid?

being an elitist has nothing to do with your music taste

I'm not trying anything. I actually have nothing against you or anything but you just proved yourself to be a dumbass. Also the retard card, low blow man. Have fun being the site's ignorant extreme metal/hip hop hybrid.

Yes, that's exactly what I am. Thanks for noticing. And you're right, I'm the only person that has ever listened to metal and hip-hop. You're so smart.

It's ok Hawks, I always forgive you.

I wish I could give you an answer to what djent is, but the only thing I can ever say about it is that it blows.

"PS this album sucks and still and no one can give me a decent answer as to what Djent is."

The term "djent" started as an onomatopoeia that was coined by Fredrik Thordendal of Meshuggah to describe the sound of a palm-muted chord played using the band's specific guitar tone. From there, the term was popularized through Misha Mansoor, who began recording and releasing free music that was heavily influenced by Meshuggah's sound - down-tuned 7-8 string guitar grooves with a heavy focus on polymeter and polyrhythm. But, he added his own touches to the sound as well, with a focus on heavily digitized production, electronic elements, and greater use of melody. He began calling this music "djent," and as he grew in popularity (eventually forming the band Periphery) the term itself began to catch on and gained an association with Misha's Meshuggah-influenced style.

So, the term "djent" as it is used now is referring to the sound that Misha popularized and that many new bands thereafter have played with and branched from. That's why most people don't consider Meshuggah to be "djent" - the term initially came from them, but it is more associated with Misha's sound which differs in a number of ways.

Bottom line (literally :D) - it started as a word used to describe the sound of a palm-muted guitar chord played through a specific tone, and grew into a term used to describe a style of music popularized by Misha Mansoor (described above).

nah, all anyone needs to know is that if a band calls themselves "djent" then they are probably subpar Meshuggah clones

these guys are cool, though

Yeah, the two are easily comparable.

I've always thought of this as the "black swan" while Februus is like the "white swan".
