Music is so objective though it's usually pretty pointless unless you're on a site like this where almost everyone thinks the same way.
I always found it funny how music has so many credible but pointless reviews when gaming, which should be much less objective and easier to rate in, has a terrible reviewing system

Lol, what?
Picked this up from a store at my local mall the other day for 7 dollars. I just happened to see it, and it was the last one.

I'll try to make it clearer.
With music, people's opinion on a specific piece of music varies greatly.
With games, you don't have that as much. If something works well in a game, most people will likely enjoy it too. And vice versa. Game mechanics are much less objective than music. But when you go onto game reviewing sites, they pretty much always give high ratings to the big titles no matter what, and the gaming industry has them on a leash. You'd think that reading a review on a game would give you much better insight into whether you'd like it or not than reading a music review would for that music but it doesn't work that way.
So you have to rely on people like this guy-

Am I making any sense or does this just look like another of my nonsensical ramblings

IGN is thataway.....

I'm way too tired to type a proper response to that message, but they're completely different mediums of art that satisfy different aesthetic wants. Also, you're probably referring to the featured reviews on gaming sites, because once you look at the user reviews (assuming the sites you visit allow users to voice their opinions as well) you'll see a wider spread of opinions.

not really. the user reviews are generally only people who like the game so those reviews are still positive
gamespot, IGN, they all do it. 9/10 for Black Ops is ridiculous.
I'm just saying that I find it odd that the system of reviewing is used so poorly with games when it should be much easier to make them useful than with music

Anarchist, I've been thinking the same thing lately. It seems like games are more clearly definable as well-done or poorly executed, whereas music is completely up to the listener. That's why I always take music scores of other users with a grain of salt- I just don't really like Isis, as opposed to a large majority of the users here, for example. No matter how much you may try to appreciate something in the field of music, it's a bit harder than seeing a good game that's clearly had a lot of work put into it, and cherishing that. And while you may APPRECIATE something musical, who says that you actually enjoy? There are many albums/bands I respect, but just don't want to listen to very often.
Here you have to learn to just go with your gut, but in a field like gaming I feel that I can trust the majority a little more because it's based on concrete evidence more. Try to explain why a particular chord structure sounds great, or try describing why the game mechanics of Batman: Arkham City do the game justice. Obviously we can all agree (not even meant as a James Blake pun at first, but hey) that games don't benefit from a lack of effort being put into the end product, whereas some music is enjoyed BECAUSE of its sloppiness/roughness around the edges.
It's really interesting to think about the differences; thanks for giving me a chance to think about it a little more.

I like your thinking Omaha. Music is more of a personal experience than video games.

i do agree than music is far more subjective than games. also, skyrim anyone?

YES SKYRIM
holy shit i'm so excited. seeing as i spent 200 hours on oblivion one summer in high school, i'll need to make sure my college grades don't suffer as a result. but I love how many great games are coming out right now... I'm busy as hell playing Forza 4. It's addicting. But Skyrim will inevitably consume much of my time... I just hope they don't dumb it down too much. I kinda like getting absorbed in the minute RPG details.

Just 8 months after the release of his much-anticipated debut LP, London producer/singer-songwriter James Blake returns with the 6 track, 25 minute EP 'Enough Thunder'. Coming off a little like some interesting LP off-cuts, focus & cohesion is not one of this release's strengths, with raw piano ballads & pitch-assisted electronica almost working against each other. While his songwriting still needs work, Blake does manage to perform a fascinating cover version of Joni Mitchell's 'A Case Of You'. Although, is anyone just a little concerned that 2 of his career standout tracks thus far have been covers? Recommended Tracks: A Case of You & Once We All Agree.
