I always thought it’d be weird to listen to those two in succession because imagine a track like No tech on leaves lol. An odd pairing. What Went Wrong would be a perfect transisiton track to act in between though

Kind of annoying that they removed the hidden track from the numero repress

'gonna go for a long walk tonight and listen to both challenge and leaves back to back'

This is becoming an ambition of mine, probably still be saying this in 5 years time mind... ideally without the late-night walking. Maybe beer instead.

Bumping this up. If this had been released with Leaves as a double, it would've probably been the greatest double album of all time. Maybe.

I still haven't actually listened to them back-to-back, but the sheer volume of top-tier material would surely be overwhelming. Incredible band.

I plan on listening to them back-to-back soon and I'm expecting an out-of-body experience

I could conceivably bump this and TFoW up and have 6 Unwound albums at either a 4.5 or 5, but I have to draw the line somewhere don't I? Either way, best band ever

This is anything but awkward and offers things Leaves could never give me. Love both equally.

"this and Leaves were meant to be a 3 disc album at one point. Empire puts them together like they should be"

I don't believe this is true

This was written in a month back in '97 and was seen as a failure at the time (lol) and Leaves was written and recorded slowly in 2000. Empire is just the final boxset in a four part series.

Leaves is a continuation of sorts in that they were both essentially written in the studio and leaves built on the moody stuff
